alfanar Construction upgrades to Quality Management Information System (QMIS) to optimize its operations

alfanar Construction management’s commitment to the continual improvement and optimization of all its operations has once again been demonstrated with the upgrade to and implementation of a Quality Management Information System (QMIS).
Information technology/systems play a significant role in improving the competitiveness of organizations. There are numerous enterprise information systems, used for monitoring and controlling processes in the construction and manufacturing industry; Quality Management Information System “QMIS” is one of them. It is widely used in the construction industry as a knowledge database for learning and as a fast track tool for controlling and monitoring of quality control/assurance and project management processes.
The TQM department took initiative for the development and implementation of the system in coordination with the IT and other support departments. A research study was conducted for both the selection of a suitable technology platform and solution packages available in the market. A research methodology was formed to develop a QMIS model and its interaction with other existing ERP systems and a optimized solution on the web based platform was finalized for in-house development.
The in-house development of QMIS was a challenging project in terms of time, technical expertise and resources required. A modular approach was adopted for development of individual process(s) and integration of workflows with other processes. Development of the system was planned for three phases. The first phase was the development of basic quality control and assurance processes, such as inspection requests, nonconformance reports, a documents and report management system, client/customer surveys and complaints management. The second phase included the development of remaining quality processes like audits, snag lists etc., and the third phase was the integration of the system with other ERP solutions.
The first development phase was completed as per plan in 2018 and was gradually implemented at the Projects Introductory workshops with hands-on practical training sessions organized for execution and quality engineers. As of October 2019 we’ve achieved the milestone of making all QMIS modules fully functional throughout alfanar Construction within KSA and abroad.
alfanar Construction QMIS is user friendly; its responsive design enables users to access it from mobile devices while working on site. Its optimized design keeps users connected in remote areas where internet speed is very slow. It facilitates paperless reporting, centralized data storage, seamless communication and work flows. Real-time monitoring and trend analysis features support pro-active actions, reduce the chance of nonconformance and enhances productivity. It contributes to the knowledge database and sharing lessons learned exercises which enables continual improvement.
